In the Civil Peace Service, we offer professionals the opportunity for meaningful service in cooperation with local development actors. The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a personnel program for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. It is committed to a world in which conflicts are resolved without violence.
In the countries the CPS has been supporting civil society organisations for many years in developing non-violent conflict resolution, strengthening human rights and supporting traumatised communities. The work of the CPS is based on partnership, trust and long-term commitment. Experts contribute their expertise, learn from local experiences and help to strengthen structures for peaceful coexistence.
JPIC-FA is a Franciscan commission that works for peace, justice, human rights, and the protection of creation. It works on conflict resolution, promoting dialogue, ecological justice, and empowering marginalized communities – particularly the Maasai and residents of informal settlements. The work takes place in a church-influenced environment that emphasizes values such as solidarity, social justice, and sustainability.
You will live and work in Nairobi. The city offers excellent infrastructure, a wide range of leisure and shopping opportunities, and good living and working conditions. From Nairobi, you will make regular trips to Narok and Kajiado counties as well as the Mau Forest region. Together with JPIC-FA and the Laudato Si Movement, you will support communities there that are affected by historical injustices, resource conflicts, marginalization, and environmental destruction. You will empower local stakeholders, promote non-violent conflict resolution, and contribute to environmental justice as the foundation for sustainable peace. Conditions in rural areas differ from those in Nairobi and may be simpler. The work can be demanding in terms of content, especially when it comes to topics such as conflict and environmental crises. Supervision and self-care are therefore important components of a sustainable way of working.
