The current coronavirus pandemic is the worst global healthcare crisis in decades. It shows that we are an international community of common destiny. The virus does not stop at national borders and can only be overcome by working together. International cooperation and solidarity are needed in order to avoid and overcome such healthcare crises, to combat global injustices and to solve conflicts without resorting to violence.
We firmly believe that personnel development cooperation – and, above all, peace work – is becoming more and more important for this.
More than ever before, it calls for people who can provide expert support to partners in the host country in their efforts to promote social development, peace and ecological change.
At present, many of our development workers are working from home. Some of them have been forced to leave their host countries temporarily and are currently based in their home countries. International travel is still very restricted at the moment. However, we hope that it will be possible again in the foreseeable future. On our own responsibility and together with our partners, we will decide in each individual case if and when development workers can work on the projects on location again.
