Personnel development

As an AGIAMONDO development worker, you will be provided with ongoing assistance before, during and after your work with your partner organisation. This will include training, consulting and individual coaching for your personal learning processes for this work and the opportunity to interact with other development workers. During your return, we will assist you in evaluating your service and in adjusting to life in your home country again.

Before it all begins: Preparation

With experienced desk officers, you will draw up a preparation plan geared towards you and the areas in which you will be working. In a series of internal and supplementary external seminars, you will learn everything you need for an effective international collaboration. You will build on your development policy know-how and learn how you yourself can boost the effectiveness of your own work by reflecting on yourself and the work you do together with your partners. We will familiarise you with interaction methods, e.g. with your colleagues in the partner organisation. You can learn techniques such as storytelling with the aid of video films or even smartphones. External coaches and supplementary seminars will help you to deal with conflicts in the host country and to care for yourself – to do so, we will train you in safety-relevant behaviour and security management. If required, the preparation will be rounded off with language courses, usually in a local language.

Cooperations with other providers such as Dienste in Übersee gGmbH and additional specialist input from other institutes will help to solidify the individual planning of your training programme.

Bringing out the best in your work

While working at the partner organisation in the host country, the AGIAMONDO team will be at hand to assist and advise you via Skype, e-mail and telephone. You can also improve your language skills and undertake further training on location. Throughout your assignment, internationally experienced coaches will be there to assist you in your learning processes.

At AGIAMONDO events in the regions, you will get acquainted with colleagues working in a wide variety of peace work and development policy areas – both fellow development workers and colleagues from a broad spectrum of partner organisations. This facilitates partner dialogue, professional discourse and networking with other partner organisations. You can also initiate regional meetings for development workers and select the learning content yourself if required. In the CPS, you will also have an AGIAMONDO coordinator on location who will be responsible for overseeing the national programme and providing ongoing support and advice to AGIAMONDO CPS workers and partner organisations in connection with the joint efforts.

Mission accomplished: returning home

After completing your assignment in the host country, you will receive a wide range of benefits designed to help you make use of your recent experiences in your private life and career. Your desk officer will provide you with individual advice and you will be given the chance to attend a conference together with other returning development workers and experienced moderators – here, you can evaluate your experiences and newly acquired knowledge from your work abroad. There are many possibilities for drawing on the wealth of this knowledge to work for socio-ecological change in your new living and working environment. Here, AGIAMONDO offers strategic, needs-oriented advice and assistance.
