Consultant for violence prevention (m/f/d), Salvador, Brazil

Your new role

The German Caritas Association (Deutsche Caritasverband – DCV) is the charitable organisation of the Catholic Church in Germany. Caritas Germany is the globally active development agency of the German Caritas Association. Every year, Caritas Germany provides support for approximately 1,000 aid projects worldwide, regardless of the religion, ethnic identity or nationality of those affected.
Cáritas Brasileira Regional Nordeste 3 is one of twelve regional offices of Caritas Brasileira, an institution of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB). The 25 employees work with people in social and economic hardship, focusing on protecting human rights, strengthening the solidarity economy and promoting lifestyles adapted to the different ecosystems. Through their work, they support holistic human development based on the Christian principles of justice, solidarity and respect for human rights.

Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:

  • You will support the local team of Cáritas Brasileira Regional Nordeste 3 in networking with church and non-church actors who are committed to preventing and combating violence in the relevant areas, and you will promote the development of skills for contemporary political influence – including at the higher national and international levels.
  • By working with specialised organisations at the national and international levels and by incorporating scientific knowledge, you will improve the effectiveness of measures to protect particularly vulnerable population groups.
  • In addition, you will advise on specialised concepts and promote cooperation with specialised organisations in order to anchor the prevention and combating of violence more firmly in the project approaches.
  • You will support the further development of effective safeguarding systems in the Brazilian Caritas network through continuous monitoring/raising of awareness and discussion of concrete needs.
  • You will advise on and assist in the execution of cross-regional and cross-border projects in the coordination of measures and in knowledge management and monitoring, among other areas.

Your profile

  • You have completed a degree in social sciences, communications or law and have several years of professional experience in development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid, ideally with a focus on human rights work.
  • You have practical experience in the field of political communication and working with indigenous and/or traditional population groups.
  • You have already successfully carried out training and consulting tasks in cooperation with local partner organisations.
  • You can demonstrate very good, applied knowledge of programme and project management (PME, PCM, MEAL).
  • Sound specialist knowledge in the field of safeguarding is an advantage.
  • You communicate very well in written and spoken Portuguese and have at least a good command of German.
  • You identify with the objectives and substance of Caritas Germany and are a member of a Christian church.
  • You are an EU or Swiss citizen.
