Your tasks

  • You will provide training to staff and managers of the Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission (ECC-SDCO) and its partner organizations in the areas of emergency and transitional aid.
  • You will support local partners in the planning and implementation of innovative projects in the areas of food security, WASH, protection, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL).
  • You will support the development and implementation of ECC-SDCO's 10-year strategy and support organizational development processes.
  • You will be involved in the strategic development of the Caritas Germany (CG) humanitarian and transitional aid project portfolio in Ethiopia and other countires.
  • You faciliate regional networking between CG partners in Africa and support cooperation with donors, the UN system and other humanitarian actors.
  • You will support the preparation of humanitarian and transitional aid funding proposal.
  • You will support the political advocacy of CG and its partners in the region vis-à-vis relevant donors (e.g. German Federal Foreign Office, EU-ECHO, UN).

Your profile

  • You have a degree in social sciences, economics or natural sciences.
  • You have at least two years of professional experience in humanitarian aid or development cooperation, ideally in the East African region.
  • You have sound knowledge of project management, organizational development and political advocacy.
  • You use your faciciliation and technical skills in a culturally sensitive manner and have experience in working with NGOs.
  • You are business fluent in English and can operate confidently in intercultural contexts.
  • You are an EU citizen or Swiss national, identify with the values of Caritas Germany and with the goals of faith-based relief activities.

Your work at Caritas Germany

The German Caritas Association (DCV) is the social welfare organization of the Catholic Church in Germany, while Caritas Germany (CG) is its globally active aid organization. CG supports around 1,000 aid projects every year, regardless of religion, ethnicity or nationality.



The Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission (ECC-SDCO) - Caritas Ethiopia - provides innovative emergency and transitional aid for victims of humanitarian crises in Ethiopia. The field of emergency response is to be further strengthened in order to implement projects even more effectively.



In this position, you will advise local partner organizations on organizational development, humanitarian issues, process standardization and personnel and financial management. The regional focus will be on networking and supporting partners in East Africa.

What do the selection days involve?

Over the course of two days, we will provide you with specific information about the conditions and framework. We will also conduct selection interviews with you.

What happens after that?

If we consider you to be a good match for the assignment, we will request your consent to introduce you to the partner organisation. You will then receive a contract for the preparation period.

What does preparation include?

All specialists receive extensive training for 3 - 4 months in Cologne to prepare them intensively for their assignment.
